Setting Self-Tapping Screws

  1. Align and secure body parts.
  2. Drill body parts using a small drill bit (-X-  mm).

    Hole geometry 

  3. Remove body parts.
  4. Drill into the outer component (-Y-  mm).
  5. De-burr all bore holes.
  6. Prepare bonding surfaces and bond body parts. Refer to WM 5X00IN WORKING WITH BODY STRUCTURAL ADHESIVE 000.043.206.30 and WM 5X00IN WORKING WITH BODY STRUCTURAL ADHESIVE PAH.071.781.00 .
  7. Align and secure body parts.
  8. Screw on body parts using a special screw.
    1. 8.1. Fit screw.

      Fitting screw 

    2. 8.2. Screw in screw using a drill set to a high speed (> 1, 000 rpm).

      Screwing in the screw at high speed shapes the cylindrical extrusion.

    3. 8.3. Groove the metric thread without tension.

    4. 8.4. Continue to screw in at low speed (< 100 rpm).

      Screwing in screw 

      Information:  If the prescribed torque is not reached when screwing in screws (screw does not tighten securely), the next size screw must be used.

    5. 8.5. Tighten the screw to the prescribed torque.

  1. Align and secure body parts.
