Adjusting rear lid

Information 

• Adjust gap dimensions on lid and accessories in accordance with the gap specifications  .
• Given a clearance in the opening that is too great or too small, the accessories must be centred with respect to the body  .
• Ensure that the gaps do not run in a wedge-shaped fashion or do not narrow at local points  .
• The given values are guidelines, which should be observed as far as possible  .
• The guidelines apply to repair work and assembly work  .
• Use star gauges to check the gap dimensions  . Star gauge WE 1690 

Adjusting rear lid 

No.	Component	Function	Procedure
1.	Fastening screws -8-  for catch bar -9-	Locking mechanism for rear lid	Loosen.
2.	Fastening screws securing lid hinge -1 and 2-  to rear lid	Adjustment of gap dimensions in Y and Z direction	Loosen.
3.	Rear lid -3-		Set gap dimensions in Y and Z direction by moving the lid.
4.	Fastening screws securing lid hinge -1-  to rear lid	Adjustment of gap dimensions in Y and Z direction	Tighten fastening screws -1-  to Tightening torque 10 Nm (7.5 ftlb.)  until secure. Adjusting rear lid
5.	Fastening screws securing lid hinge to body -2-  . If adjustments are needed, detach the rear roof trim panel. → 708419 REMOVING AND INSTALLING HEADLINER - SECTION ON "REMOVING"	Adjusting gap dimensions in X direction, rear	Loosen.
6.	Fastening screws securing lid hinge to body -2-. If adjustments are needed, detach the rear roof trim panel. - 708419 Removing and installing headliner - section on "Removing"	Adjusting gap dimensions in X direction, rear	Tighten fastening screws -2- to Tightening torque 23 Nm (17 ftlb.)  until secure. Adjusting rear lid
7.	Fastening screws -5-  for the guide wedge on the sides of the lid -4-	Correcting gap dimension with respect to the body	Tighten fastening screws -5-  to Tightening torque 6 Nm (4.5 ftlb.)  until secure. Adjusting rear lid
8.	Lower part of lid lock l -9-	Locking mechanism for rear lid	Adjust latch by moving lower part of lid lock.
9.	Fastening screws -8-  for lower part of lid lock -9-	Locking mechanism for rear lid	Tighten fastening screws -8-  to Tightening torque 18 Nm (13 ftlb.)  until secure. Adjusting rear lid
10.	Rubber stop -7-	Adjusting gap dimensions and preload	Set gap dimensions and inclination by turning the rubber stops -7-  . There must be slight preload on the lid as a result of setting the rubber stops -7-  .
