Removing Lock Carrier

Information: 

• The number of fastening screws, fixing clips, plug connections, holders and trim panels can vary depending on equipment  .
• The illustrations for removing and installing the drive mechanism are shown only on one equipment variant and may differ from the actual equipment variant  .
• Some steps must be carried out automatically  .
• Some of the repair illustrations show only one side of the vehicle  .

1. Disconnect battery ground strap. Refer to 270619 REMOVING AND INSTALLING BATTERY .
2. Remove engine cover.
3. Remove rubber seal -4-  on feed-through element for pressure pipe.
4. Loosen hose clamp -2-  securing throttle-housing cover to pressure pipe and remove cover from pressure pipe. Refer to 243519 REMOVING AND INSTALLING THROTTLE-HOUSING COVER .
5. Loosen clamp and disconnect hose -1-  from pressure pipe.
6. Loosen clamp and disconnect hose -6-  from pressure line.
7. Disconnect hose -5-  from vacuum line for the ambient air valves.
8. Release and disconnect electric plug connection -3-  on the pressure sensor.

9. Release and disconnect coolant vent line -2-  on the bleeder valve -1-  .
10. Unclip and disconnect operating cable -3-  for bonnet release from the bracket.
11. Unscrew front fastening screws -4-  on the mounting for the right headlight.

12. Release and disconnect electric plug connections -1-  for the front wire harness, unclip wire harness at the body and secure it to the lock carrier. Refer to 971519 REMOVING AND INSTALLING FRONT WIRE HARNESS .
13. Unscrew side fastening screws -2-  for the front retaining strips.

14. Remove upper transverse strut for lock carrier at the body -1-  .
    1. 14.1. Unscrew fastening screws -3-  at the top.
    2. 14.2. Unscrew fastening screws -2-  at the sides.
15. Unscrew top fastening screws -4-  for the lock carrier.

16. Swivel side sections of the air guides -4-  inwards.
17. Remove control unit for garage door opener -2-  . Refer to 967919 REMOVING AND INSTALLING CONTROL UNIT FOR GARAGE DOOR OPENER .
18. Unscrew fastening screw for bracket for garage door opener control unit and remove bracket.

19. Unscrew fastening screws -1-  for supports at the lock carrier.
20. Disconnect charge air hose -3-  at the charge-air cooler.
21. Disconnect hose from the recirculating air valve -2-  on the intake manifold.
22. Release and disconnect electric plug connection -4-  at the coolant temperature sensor.
23. Release and disconnect electric plug connections for the electric fans -5-  and unclip the relevant wire harness at the lock carrier.

24. Unclip wire harness -4-  at the lock carrier and remove electric connector -5-  on the lock carrier.
25. Disconnect refrigerant lines -3-  at the connection point to the condenser and close off openings using stoppers.
26. Remove front air guides -6-  for the charge-air cooler. Refer to 214319 REMOVING AND INSTALLING CHARGE-AIR COOLER .
27. Release and disconnect electric plug connections -2-  for airbag sensors.
28. Disconnect hose -1-  for headlight cleaning system at the connection point -7-  , unclip at the lock carrier and guide out.

29. Remove upper coolant hose -1-  at the radiator.
30. Remove lower coolant hose -2-  at the radiator.
31. Release and disconnect connections for the transmission oil lines -3-  and close off openings using stoppers.

32. Secure lock carrier from falling down, unscrew fastening screws -1, 2-  and remove lock carrier.
