Loosening Lock Carrier

Information: 

• The number of fastening screws, fixing clips, plug connections, holders and trim panels can vary depending on equipment  .
• The illustrations for removing and installing the drive mechanism are shown only on one equipment variant and may differ from the actual equipment variant  .
• Some steps must be carried out automatically  .
• Some of the repair illustrations show only one side of the vehicle  .

1. Disconnect battery ground strap. Refer to 270619 REMOVING AND INSTALLING BATTERY .
2. Remove engine cover.
3. Remove rubber seal -4-  on feed-through element for pressure pipe.
4. Loosen screw-type clamp -2-  used to secure the throttle-housing cover to the pressure pipe and pull cover off pressure pipe. Refer to 243519 REMOVING AND INSTALLING THROTTLE-HOUSING COVER .
5. Loosen clamp -1-  and disconnect hose from pressure pipe.
6. Loosen clamp and disconnect hose -6-  from pressure line.
7. Disconnect hose -5-  from vacuum line for the ambient air valves.
8. Release and disconnect electric plug connection -3-  on the pressure sensor.

9. Release and disconnect coolant vent line -2-  on the bleeder valve -1-  .
10. Unclip and disconnect operating cable -3-  for bonnet release from the bracket.
11. Unscrew front fastening screws -4-  on the right headlight mounting. Refer to 941419 REMOVING AND INSTALLING HEADLIGHT MOUNTING .

12. Release and disconnect electric plug connections -1-  for front wire harness and unclip wire harness at the body. Refer to 971519 REMOVING AND INSTALLING FRONT WIRE HARNESS .
13. Unscrew side fastening screws -2-  on the front retaining strips.

14. Apply markings -6-  to ensure correct installation position of lock carrier with respect to the body -1 -  during re-installation.
15. Remove upper transverse strut -5-  for lock carrier on the body -1 -  .
    1. 15.1. Unscrew top fastening screws -3-  .
    2. 15.2. Unscrew fastening screws -2-  at the sides.
16. Unscrew top fastening screws -4-  on both sides.

17. Swivel side parts -4-  of the air guides at the top and bottom inwards.
18. Remove control unit for garage door opener. Refer to 967919 REMOVING AND INSTALLING CONTROL UNIT FOR GARAGE DOOR OPENER .
19. Unscrew fastening screw securing holder for control unit for garage door opener to lock support and remove holder.
20. Unscrew outer top fastening screw -1-  for the bracket at the threaded bore.
21. Screw guiding rods -3-  into the threaded bore. Tools used: Guiding rods T10093 
22. Unscrew the other fastening screws -1-  securing the bracket to the body.

23. Unscrew fastening screws -1-  on supports at the lock carrier.
24. Disconnect charge air hose -3-  at the charge-air cooler.
25. Disconnect hose from the recirculating air valve -2-  on the intake manifold.
26. Release electric plug connection -4-  at the coolant temperature sensor and disconnect it.
27. Release and disconnect electric plug connections for the electric fans -5-  and unclip the relevant wire harness at the lock carrier.

28. Unclip wire harness -4-  at the lock carrier.
29. Unscrew fastening screw -3-  on the bracket for refrigerant lines.
30. Release and disconnect electric plug connections -2-  for airbag sensors.
31. Unclip hose for headlight cleaning system -1-  at the lock carrier.
32. Unscrew fastening screws -5-  for coolant line -6-  on the timing-case cover.

33. Pull the lock carrier forward.
    1. 33.1. Pull lock carrier on transverse strut forward. When moving the lock carrier, make sure that the hoses and lines are not overstrained. Disconnect them beforehand if necessary.
    2. 33.2. The maximum distance between the lock carrier and front bracket must not exceed 80 mm on both sides. Otherwise, the hydraulic and refrigerant lines will be overstrained.
