Installing Pistons

  1. Fit piston pin using drift VW 222 A  .
  2. Fit new  circlips in the piston pin eye.
  3. Install piston rings offset by 120° using piston ring pliers Nr.58  .
  4. Insert bearing shells into the connecting rod and connecting-rod bearing cap. Do not mix up worn bearing shells. 

    Dimension -a-  must be the same at the left and right.

  5. Oil the running surfaces of the bearing shells.
  6. Install piston using piston-ring restraining strap Nr.57  .

    Check installation position: Arrow on piston crown is pointing to the pulley.

  7. Install connecting-rod bearing cap with new  fastening screws.

    Check installation position.
