Before starting work, observe the Technical Information

> Refer to 153300 Symptom Engine - Loose/Broken Screws and/or Oil Leaks in the Timing Case Cover and/or Camshaft Adjuster Cover Area (SY 210/21) in the appropriate service information.

Information

For optimum assembly, turn the engine to "TDC" before disassembly.

Information

Seal open lines and hoses with suitable sealing plugs from the VAS 6122 - motor sealing plug set .

Information

The number of screws, fastening clips, plug connections, holders and lines may vary depending on the engine variant and equipment.
The graphics for removal or installation are partly shown on a variant and may deviate from the actual situation.
Naturally, some steps must always be carried out.

Disconnect the battery.

Drain engine oil.
> 170117 DRAIN AND FILL ENGINE OIL (CHANGING ENGINE OIL)
Drain coolant.
> 193817 DRAINING AND FILLING COOLANT (INCLUDES BLEEDING)
Remove refrigerant by suction.
> WM 870317 DRAINING AND FILLING REFRIGERANT (EXCEPT PANAMERA S EXECUTIVE, PANAMERA EXECUTIVE, PANAMERA 4 S EXECUTIVE, PANAMERA TURBO EXECUTIVE, PANAMERA GTS, PANAMERA 4S SPORT EDITION, PANAMERA 4 EXECUTIVE)
Remove front bumper.
> WM 631519 REMOVING AND INSTALLING FRONT APRON (EXCEPT PANAMERA EXECUTIVE, PANAMERA PLATINUM ED., PANAMERA 4 PLATINUM ED.)
Remove the cover for the throttle body completely with both molded hoses.
> 243519 REMOVE AND INSTALL CAP FOR THROTTLE BODY PART (Y-PIPE IN FRONT OF THROTTLE BODY)

Completely disconnect the lock support panel and jumper with all radiators.

In addition, carry out the following steps:

Unlock and pull off electric plug connections.

Unscrew fastening screws -1. 2- for refrigerant lines at the condenser.

7.3.1 Pull off refrigerant lines, close them off using a suitable stopper and set them aside.

Loosen and disconnect the clamp for the coolant hoses -Arrows- on the aluminium pipes for the thermostat housing at both sides

7.4.1 Catch escaping coolant.

7.4.2 Close off openings using suitable stoppers.

Unlock and disconnect the electrical connector of the electric fan.

Release wire harness at the cooling fan housing -1 to 4- .

Hydraulic oil lines

Loosen the ATF supply and -Arrows- return hoses and drain the oil.

Supply and return hose for transmission oil cooler

7.8.1 Collect leaking ATF and close lines with suitable plugs.
Remove complete radiator assembly with the help of another person.

Loosen the three fastening screws -Arrows- on the coolant pump belt pulley.

Remove drive belt.
> 137819 REMOVE AND INSTALL DRIVE BELT
Remove the coolant pump belt pulley.
Remove both cylinder head covers
> 158219 REMOVE AND INSTALL CYLINDER HEAD COVER
Turn engine to TDC of cylinder 1.
Remove belt pulley.
> 137619 REMOVE AND INSTALL BELT PULLEY (VIBRATION DAMPER)

Before removing the belt pulley, make sure that the stakeout hole of the belt pulley is aligned with the recess in the chain housing cover.

Remove belt pulley with friction plate.
V6 Biturbo: 9861 - Staking tool for timing must be fitted on the camshafts of both cylinder banks.
Tighten screws with 20 Nm (15 ftlb.).

Remove the crankshaft sealing flange and the belt pulley.

Replace sealing flange during installation
Remove turbocharger suction and pressure hose on cylinder bank 1.
Remove generator.

Remove chain tensioner.

Remove oil pressure indicator with adapter.

Completely dismantle the lock support panel and bumper with all radiators.
