Preliminary Work

Information 

  1. Raise the vehicle. → 4X00IN LIFTING THE VEHICLE
  2. Remove front wheels. → 440519 REMOVING AND REINSTALLING WHEEL
  3. Remove front wheel housing liner on the left and right. → 505619 REMOVING AND REINSTALLING FRONT WHEEL HOUSING LINER
  4. Remove underbody panelling. → 519219 REMOVING AND REINSTALLING COVER FOR FRONT UNDERBODY
  5. Remove front-axle support at the front.
    1. 5.1. Loosen fastening screws -2-  and remove front-axle support at the front.

  6. Remove fastening screws on engine mount.
  7. Loosen lower torque support. → 103719 REMOVING AND REINSTALLING TORQUE SUPPORT
    1. 7.1. Remove outer threaded joint (take out screw).
    2. 7.2. Loosen inner threaded joint (leave screw in place).
  8. For all-wheel drive vehicles: Loosen drive shaft on the transmission side.
    1. 8.1. Use a protective tube (shop-made) -1-  for the drive shaft.

    2. 8.2. Loosen fastening screws -arrows-  using socket insert XZN 10 T10501  .

  9. Remove heat shield -1-  .

    1. 9.1. Undo fastening screws -2-  .
    2. 9.2. Take off heat shield -1-  .
  10. On vehicles with Servotronic: Pull off connector -1-  .

  11. Detach universal joint -1-  .
    1. 11.1. Unscrew clamping screw -2-  .
    2. 11.2. Push universal joint -1-  with lower part of steering column upwards -3-  and pull it down past the steering gear shaft -4-  .

  12. Loosen connecting link from the spring strut.

    Conventional connecting link: 

    Loosen the top fastening nut -1-  .

    Remove fastening screw -3-  .

    PDCC connecting link: 

    Loosen the top fastening nut -1-  .

    Counter ball pin using a screwdriver 9546  .

  13. Remove air guide -1-  on both lower trailing arms.

  14. Loosen fastening nut -arrows-  on the lower spring strut on both sides, but do not remove the bolt yet.

  15. Remove plenum panel cover. → 852219 REMOVING AND REINSTALLING PLENUM PANEL COVER
  16. Support the engine on the body. → 1001IN SUPPORTING ENGINE ON THE BODY (ENGINE SAFETY DEVICE)
