Removing Wheel Bearing Housing: Notes

  1. Disconnect push-on connector -1-  and detach bracket -2-  from the wheel carrier.

  2. Move electric parking brake into >> installation position << (Porsche System Tester).
  3. If the wheel bearing housing is replaced: 

    Information 

    • Before raising the vehicle, loosen the drive shaft mounting at the wheel side. Operate the brake while doing this (2 mechanics required). 
    • To prevent damage to the drive shaft, suspension subframe or transmission flange, slide a protective tube (shop-made) 00000 over the drive shaft. 
    • Move electric parking brake into >>installation position<< (Porsche System Tester). 

      Use puller set Nr.87-1 Pos.1  to push (press) the drive shaft peg into the wheel hub by a maximum of → Control value: +10 mm  . Leave the puller fitted (this will make removal easier!).

  4. Use a protective tube (shop-made) -1-  for the drive shaft.

  5. Disengage the self-levelling sensor linkage -1-  on the ball pin -2-  .

  6. Remove the tie rod -2-  on the wheel bearing housing.

    1. 6.1. Undo fastening screw -1 right-  .
  7. Remove rear upper control arm -2-  on the wheel bearing housing.

    1. 7.1. Undo fastening screw -1 right-  .
  8. Remove front upper control arm -2-  on the wheel bearing housing.

    1. 8.1. 2. Get another person to help (wheel carrier can tip outwards!).
    2. 8.2. Undo fastening screw -1 right-  .
  9. Left side: Break off protective plastic ring -1-  with a screwdriver.

  10. Lever the drive shaft out of the rear-axle transmission housing using two mounting levers, for example.
    IMPORTANT: Hold the drive shaft!  In the event of unfavorable tolerances, the drive shaft might slip out.

  11. Remove lower trailing arm -2-  on the wheel bearing housing.

    1. 11.1. Undo fastening screw -1-  .
  12. Carefully remove wheel bearing housing with the drive shaft.
