Installing A-Pillar Reinforcement

Information 

• Before final assembly, make sure you fully understand all the work steps involved and carry out a trial assembly without applying adhesive  .
• The bonding process can only be carried out reliably when a smooth and swift sequence of operations is guaranteed  .
• Do not begin bonding work until all materials and tools necessary for later repair work are available  .

1. Install A-pillar reinforcement and check that it fits perfectly. Check gap dimensions. → WM 5X00IN GAP DIMENSIONS

   Information 

   Adhesive must not be applied to areas to be plug-welded or fully welded using inert gas.

   1. 1.1. Apply adhesive to the marked areas. → 5X00IN21 WORKING WITH BODY STRUCTURAL ADHESIVE → Application depth: 3.0 mm 
   2. 1.2. Apply foam filler to the sealing element area on the body. → WM 5X00IN PROCESSING BODY FOAM FILLER

   Make sure that all openings and gaps between the end plate and rear lock support are sealed with the sealing compound.

2. Guide in A-pillar reinforcement -1-  at an angle from the bottom -arrows a-  up -arrow A-  .

3. Resistance spot-weld the A-pillar reinforcement.
   1. 3.1. Plug-weld area -A; C-  using inert gas.
   2. 3.2. Resistance spot-weld area -B-  .

4. Resistance spot-weld the A-pillar reinforcement.
   1. 4.1. Plug-weld area -A-  using inert gas.
   2. 4.2. Apply a full weld to the area using inert gas.

5. Plug-weld the A-pillar reinforcement in area -A-  using inert gas.

6. Resistance spot-weld the side member closing element.
   1. 6.1. Plug-weld area -A-  using inert gas.
   2. 6.2. Apply a full weld to the area using inert gas.
