Installing A-Pillar Reinforcement
Information
- Before final assembly, make sure you fully understand all the work steps involved and carry out a trial assembly without applying adhesive.
- The bonding process can only be carried out reliably when a smooth and swift sequence of operations is guaranteed.
- Do not begin bonding work until all materials and tools necessary for later repair work are available.
- Install A-pillar reinforcement and check that it fits perfectly. Check gap dimensions. → 5X00IN DIAGRAM - BODY GAP DIMENSIONS
Information
Adhesive must not be applied to areas to be plug-welded or fully welded using inert gas.
- 1.1. Apply adhesive to the marked areas. → 5X00IN21 WORKING WITH BODY STRUCTURAL ADHESIVE→ Application depth: 3.0 mm
- 1.2. Apply foam filler to the sealing element area on the body. → 5X00IN22 WORKING WITH BODY FOAM FILLER
Make sure that all openings and gaps between the end plate and rear lock support are sealed with the sealing compound.
- Guide in A-pillar reinforcement -1- at an angle from the bottom -arrows a- up -arrow A- .
- Resistance spot-weld the A-pillar reinforcement.
- 3.1. Plug-weld area -A; C-using inert gas.
- 3.2. Resistance spot-weld area -B- .
- Resistance spot-weld the A-pillar reinforcement.
- 4.1. Plug-weld area -A- using inert gas.
- 4.2. Apply a full weld to the area -arrows- using inert gas.
- Plug-weld the A-pillar reinforcement in area -A- using inert gas.
- Resistance spot-weld the side member closing element.
- 6.1. Plug-weld area -A- using inert gas.
- 6.2. Apply a full weld to the area -arrows- using inert gas.
