Removing Bellows For Steering-Gear Housing (Joint Boot)
Information
- Mark the position of the tie-rod ball on the thread before unscrewing it.
- Count the number of turns when unscrewing the tie-rod ball.
- It will then be possible to install the tie-rod ball back in the same position and retain the basic setting of the steering trapeze.
- However, this does not replace the suspension alignment.
Information
- Make sure that no dirt gets into the power-steering gear and bellows when removing and installing the bellows.
Installation position
- Unscrew lock nut from tie rod.
- Right tie rod:
Remove fastening screws -1- on the heat shield -2- near the bellows -3- for the right tie rod.

- Pull out heat shield -2- .
- Loosen the outer clamp -arrow-
on the bellows using > VAS 6890 - Spring Band Clamp Pliers

Outer clamp
- Loosen the inner clamp -1-
on the bellows using suitable pliers.

- Pull bellows -3- together with clamp -1- off the tie rod -2- .
