Removing Bellows For Steering-Gear Housing (Joint Boot)

Information 

• Mark the position of the tie-rod ball on the thread before unscrewing it. 
• Count the number of turns when unscrewing the tie-rod ball. 
• It will then be possible to install the tie-rod ball back in the same position and retain the basic setting of the steering trapeze. 
• However, this does not replace the suspension alignment. 

Information 

• Make sure that no dirt gets into the power-steering gear and bellows when removing and installing the bellows.

Installation position

1. Unscrew lock nut from tie rod.
2. Right tie rod: 

   Remove fastening screws -1-  on the heat shield -2-  near the bellows -3-  for the right tie rod.

3. Pull out heat shield -2-  .
4. Loosen the outer clamp -arrow-  on the bellows using > VAS 6890 - Spring Band Clamp Pliers  .

5. Loosen the inner clamp -1-  on the bellows using suitable pliers.

6. Pull bellows -3-  together with clamp -1-  off the tie rod -2-  .
