Preliminary Work

Information 

• Get one or more people to help when installing/removing heavy or difficult-to-reach components.
• This will prevent or reduce the risk of possible damage.

Information 

• Spray corroded nuts and screws with rust solvent or heat using a hot-air gun before removal.

1. Move selector lever to position -N-  .
2. Disconnect ground contact for the battery under the driver's seat.
3. Remove engine compartment trim panel at tie left.

4. Disconnect plug connection -1-  for left oxygen sensor from the holder in the engine compartment and expose wire harness.
   1. 4.1  Disconnect plug connection for oxygen sensor for primary catalytic converter.
   2. 4.2  Unclip wire harness -arrows-  and open out the lower holder at the top.

5. Remove engine guard.

6. Loosen the rear cardan shaft -1-  at the transfer gear and secure it with a tie-wrap -2-  to prevent it from becoming kinked.

7. Remove front cardan shaft.

8. Remove left catalytic converter.

   > 267319 REMOVING AND INSTALLING (MAIN) CATALYTIC CONVERTER

   1. 8.1  Spray flange nuts with rust solvent and leave it to take effect or heat flange nuts using a hot-air gun if necessary.
   2. 8.2  Screw off flange nuts.
   3. 8.3  Remove catalytic converter.
   4. 8.4  Replace seal and flange nuts.
9. Remove heat shield on the universal joint.
   1. 9.1  Unscrew fastening screws -1-  on the heat shield -2-  .
   2. 9.2  Remove heat shield.

10. Unscrew fastening screw -1-  on holder -2-  for primary catalytic converter at the left -3-  .

11. Loosen primary catalytic converter at the left -1-  .

    1. 11.1  Spray fastening nuts for the primary catalytic converter with rust solvent and leave it to take effect.
    2. 11.2  Unscrew fastening nuts (left-hand side only) and pull catalytic converter out of the threaded bolts.

12. Remove oxygen sensor on primary catalytic converter at the left.

    > 247319 REMOVING AND INSTALLING OXYGEN SENSORS DOWNSTREAM OF CATALYTIC CONVERTER

    1. 12.1  Tip the primary catalytic converter -1-  down.
    2. 12.2  Loosen and unscrew oxygen sensor -2-  using an open-ended wrench (a/f 22) -3-  .
    3. 12.3  Remove primary catalytic converter and oxygen sensor.
    4. 12.4  Replace seal and lock nuts.

13. Release electric plug connections -1 and 2-  at the right of the transfer gear -a, b-  and disconnect them -A, B-  .

14. Release electric plug connections -1 and 2-  at the bottom of the transfer gear -a, b-  and disconnect them -A,_B-  .

15. Remove transmission cross member.
    1. 15.1  Unscrew M10 fastening screws -B-  on the transmission mount.
    2. 15.2  Unscrew M10 fastening screws -A-  on the outer cross member and remove cross member.

16. Remove transfer gear.
