Replacing Front Disc Brake Pads: Notes

Information 

  1. Release and disconnect electric plug connection -1-  on the speed sensor -2-  .
  2. Follow the routing of the electric wiring harness and release it from the holder on the wheel bearing housing at all connection points.

  3. Remove electric plug connection for the brake pad wear indicator -1-  from the holder on the wheel bearing housing and release and disconnect it.

  4. Unscrew and remove fastening screw -2-  for the holder on the wheel bearing housing -1-  .
  5. Remove holder on the wheel bearing housing -1-  as far as possible.

    Information 

    Never use power tools (impact bolter) for loosening and securing the brake calliper on the wheel bearing housing.

  6. Unscrew and remove fastening screws -1-  on the brake calliper -2-  .

    Information 

    If the brake calliper cannot be removed easily, the brake pistons must be pressed back slightly and evenly using a suitable tool (e.g. an assembly wedge) in order to get over the edge of the brake disc. To prevent damage, do not insert hard objects between the brake pad and brake disc! 

  7. Carefully loosen brake calliper -2-  and remove it.

  8. Set brake calliper down.
    1. 8.1  Set brake calliper down on a suitable base (e.g. universal lift). Use a suitable cloth as an intermediate layer to protect paintwork from damage.
    2. 8.2  When positioning the brake calliper on the base, carefully guide in the brake line and brake hose.
  9. Press the brake piston back evenly using > 9472 - brake piston resetting fixture  .
    1. 9.1  Insert brake piston resetting fixture between the disc brake pads.

      Information 

      If necessary, remove a little brake fluid from the reservoir by suction in order to prevent an overflow when the disc brake pads are pushed back.

    2. 9.2  Press disc brake pads back evenly.

  10. If you intend to re-use the disc brake pads:  Mark the installation position.
  11. Remove disc brake pads.

    Information 

    Make sure not to damage the rubber boots on the brake pistons.

    1. 11.1  Carefully remove disc brake pads using a suitable tool by levering them off the brake calliper.
    2. 11.2  Remove pad retaining spring.
