Installing Camshaft Controller For Cylinder Bank 2 (Left)
- Risk of engine damage
→ Never turn the engine at the crankshaft without a chain tensioner.
→ Never turn the crankshaft against the direction of rotation.
→ Always counter the sprockets when performing assembly work on them.
→ Make sure that nobody starts the engine or pushes the vehicle while in gear when the chain tensioner is removed. To prevent this, stick a warning note on the steering wheel or ignition lock.

- Crankshaft -1- secured at "TDC" position with locking pin T40069 .
- Camshafts secured at "TDC" position using camshaft clamps T40133 (-arrows- ).
- Fit timing chain on the camshaft controller -A-
and fit the camshaft controller on the camshaft. Check the following while doing this:
- 3.1. The timing chain must be "tight" on the guide rail -arrow- .
- 3.2. The timing chain must be held tightly "by hand" in -direction of arrow- .
- The groove -1- in the camshaft controller must be opposite the setting window -2- .
- Insert camshaft sprocket into the timing chain and position the camshaft sprocket on the camshaft. Check the following while doing this:
- 5.1. The marking point -1- must be opposite the setting window -2- .
- Loosely screw in screws -1- and -2- . It should still be possible to turn the camshaft controller and camshaft sprocket on the camshaft without tilting.
- Using a screwdriver -1- , press the guide rail for the chain tensioner for the left timing chain in as far as it will go. Then lock the chain tensioner with the locking pin T40071 .
- Counter-hold tool 3036
must be positioned on the camshaft controller.
Counter-hold tool 3036 must be pressed in -direction of arrow- . Then check that the timing chain is "tight" on the guide rail. If the timing chain is still "loose", the camshaft sprocket must be moved by one tooth.
Get a second mechanic to use the counter-hold tool 3036 to keep the timing chain pretensioned in -direction of arrow- .
- Tighten screws as follows while still keeping the camshaft sprocket pretensioned:
- 9.1. Tighten intake camshaft screw to 80 Nm (59 ftlb.) .
- 9.2. Tighten outlet camshaft screw to 80 Nm (59 ftlb.) .
Information
To loosen the screw for the camshaft controller or camshaft sprocket, never use camshaft clamp T40133 as a counter-hold tool.
- Tighten screws to the specified final tightening torque. To do this, counter using counter-hold tool 3036
or pin wrench 3212
.
- 10.1. Turn intake camshaft screw a further 90 ° . Counter using counter-hold tool 3036 while doing this.
- 10.2. Turn outlet camshaft screw a further 90 ° . Counter using the pin wrench 3212 while doing this.
