Checking Valve Stem Guide

Information 

• If the valve is replaced during repairs, use a new valve for the measurement. 
• Due to different stem diameters, only use one intake valve in the intake guide and one exhaust valve in the exhaust guide. 

1. Dial gauge Nr.136 Pos.1  with universal dial gauge bracket VW 387  must be secured to the cylinder head as shown.

2. Insert valve into the valve guide.
3. The end of the valve stem must be flush with the valve guide.
4. Determine the valve tilt play. Wear limit: 0.8 mm  .
5. If the wear limit is exceeded, repeat the measurement with new valves.

Information 

The valve guides cannot be interchanged.

If the wear limit is still exceeded, replace the cylinder head.
