Checking Hydraulic Tappets

Test conditions: 

Engine must be at operating temperature.

The valve on the hydraulic tappet you are checking must be closed.

1. Use adapter T40058  and an angled ring wrench to turn the crankshaft in direction of rotation of the engine -arrow-  until the valve on the hydraulic tappet you are checking is closed.

2. Measure the amount of play between the cams and rocker arm.
   1. 2.1.
   2. 2.2. Press the rocker arm down -arrow-  .

      Information 

      Defective or worn hydraulic tappets cannot be repaired, but must be replaced.

   3. 2.3. If you can slide a feeler gauge 0.20 mm  between the cams and rocker arm, replace the hydraulic tappet.
   4. 2.4. Replace hydraulic tappet. → 150520 REMOVING AND INSTALLING CAMSHAFTS
