Removing Guide And Tensioning Rails

Information 

If the timing chain has to be removed or replaced, check the guide and tensioning rails as well as the chain pinions for wear and scoring and replace them if necessary.

Information 

• The rolling direction of the timing chain must always be the same. 
• If the timing chain is to be reused, the rolling direction of the timing chain must be marked before it is removed. 

1. Remove guide and tensioning rails for camshaft drive.
   1. 1.1. Lever off guide pad -4-  and remove it.
   2. 1.2. Pull tensioning rail -6-  off the threaded bolt -9-  .
   3. 1.3. Pull guide rail -7-  off the threaded bolt -8-  .
   4. 1.4. Unscrew screws -3-  and remove deflector rail.

2. Remove guide and tensioning rail module.
   1. 2.1. Carefully slacken the tensioning rail module -2-  for the oil pump chain -1-  . Press the tensioning rail back using a small screwdriver until both staking holes between the tensioning rail and guide rail are aligned. → see Fig 2
   2. 2.2. Stake tensioning rail module -2-  for the oil pump chain through the hole in the guide rail using a suitable drill bit, drift punch or nail. This slackens the oil pump chain. → see Fig 2
