Installing Rear Lid Hinge

  1. Fit lid hinge -1-  and align it according to the marking -2-  .

  2. Tighten fastening nuts -2-  to the specified tightening torque Tightening torque 23 Nm (17 ftlb.)  until secure.

  3. Remove marking.
  4. Place lid in installation position (another person is needed to prevent the rear lid from closing accidentally).
  5. Tighten fastening screws to the specified tightening torque Tightening torque 23 Nm (17 ftlb.)  until secure.

    CAUTION: Incorrect handling of gas-filled shock absorbers
    • Gas-filled shock absorbers can burst
    • Risk of eye injuries
    • Risk of bruising

    → Gas-filled shock absorbers must be in idle state before removal.

    → Open the lid.

    → Secure the lid to prevent it from closing accidentally following removal of the gas-filled shock absorbers.

    → Do not use force to open the gas-filled shock absorbers because of their high internal pressure.

  6. Secure pneumatic spring at the top (another person is needed to prevent the rear lid from closing accidentally). → Securing Rear Pneumatic Spring 559319 REMOVING AND INSTALLING REAR PNEUMATIC SPRING 
  7. Install wire harness. → 972719 REMOVING AND INSTALLING WIRE HARNESS FOR TAILGATE
