Connecting And Disconnecting Battery

WARNING: Static battery charge
  • Battery can explode
  • Electrical discharges

→ Do not rub the battery with a dry cloth.

Switch off all loads and remove the ignition key.

Information 

The battery is located in the luggage compartment under the storage floor.

  1. Open the luggage compartment floor.
  2. Remove tool kit tray.
  3. Disconnect ground strap on the battery: 
  4. Risk of short circuit! Disconnect the negative cable -1-  on the battery.

  5. Route or isolate the ground strap so that all contact with a ground carrier (e.g. body, battery terminal) is avoided.
  6. Connect the battery 
    1. 6.1. Connect the negative cable -1-  to the battery terminal and secure it with the fastening nut.

      Terminal clamp to battery -1- Tightening torque 6 Nm (4.5 ftlb.)

  7. The rear lid must be closed manually on vehicles with a Power Lift Gate (electric rear lid). Then open the rear lid with the tip switch. The rear lid must open electrically.
  8. Insert tool kit tray and fold down the luggage compartment tray.
