Removing Primary Catalytic Converter On Right Side
CAUTION:
Hot components
- Risk of burns
→ Let hot components cool down.
→ Wear personal protective gear.
CAUTION:
Heavy components
- Risk of squashing
→ Wear personal protective gear.
→ Get someone to help if necessary.
- Primary catalytic converter on right side
- Bottom holder on transmission housing
- Top holder on transmission bell housing
- Clamp on flange for turbocharger
- Unclip electric plug connections -1- for the oxygen sensors in the engine compartment at the right and remove them by pulling them up -arrows- . Release and disconnect electric plug connections.
- Check that the cables are routed correctly -arrows- !
- Remove cable on the right cylinder bank from the cable duct -1- and unclip it from the bracket -2- .
- Unclip cable at the transmission housing.
- Pull oxygen sensor cables downwards.
- 5.1. Fasten the cables to a suitable cord so that you can pull them up again during installation.
- 5.2. Pull the cables down past the vacuum pump.
- Loosen clamping sleeve -1-
on the right exhaust pipe.
- 6.1. Loosen clamping screws -2- .
- 6.2. Slide clamping sleeves -1- to the rear -arrow- .
- Unscrew nut -1- on the bottom holder -2- .
- Unscrew fastening screw -1-
on the top holder -2-

Information
- Access to the clamps between the heat shield on the all-wheel drive transmission at the front and the turbocharger is very restricted.
- Use a narrow tool (sockets, extensions). Use jointed sockets if necessary.
- Unscrew screw -3- on the clamp -4- and remove clamp -4- .
- Remove primary catalytic converter.
