Removing Exhaust System

→ Let hot components cool down.

→ Wear personal protective gear.

→ Wear personal protective gear.

→ Get someone to help if necessary.

1. Loosen both connecting clamps (clamping sleeves) between the catalytic converters and exhaust system. Push clamping sleeves onto the exhaust system at the side -arrows-  . The clamping sleeves must not be re-used.

2. Remove struts -1-  on the underbody.

3. Secure the exhaust system under the vehicle using a transmission jack -1-  .

   1. 3.1. Position transmission jack under the exhaust system so that both pipes are supported together at the end of the cardan tunnel. -1- 
   2. 3.2. Guide tension strap around both pipes and fasten it. Raise the exhaust system slightly.
4. Remove connecting strut -3-  between the rear silencers.
   1. Clamping sleeves
   2. Centre holder
   3. Connecting strut between rear silencers
   4. Rear holder
   5. Flap system vacuum unit

5. Pull off the vacuum hoses at the vacuum units for flap activation.
6. Remove rear holders for both rear silencers. Unscrew each of the two sets of fastening screws to do this -1-  .

7. Remove reinforcement plate -1-  from cardan tunnel.

8. Remove the center holders -2-  at the left and right.

9. Remove the exhaust system, which is secured with a tension strap -arrows-  , in a downward direction by lowering the transmission jack.

   1. 9.1. When removing the exhaust system, carefully push the rear silencers together and guide them downwards and out of the rear apron. Rear silencers will make slight contact with the heat shields on the rear apron.
