Removing Tailgate Trim Panel

Information 

• The number of fastening screws, fixing clips, plug connections, holders and trim panels can vary depending on equipment. 
• The illustrations for removing and installing the drive mechanism are shown only on one equipment variant and may differ from the actual equipment variant. 
• Some steps must be carried out automatically. 
• Some of the repair illustrations show only one side of the vehicle. 

Information 

To reduce the unclipping forces and thereby the risk of damage during removal, the removal steps must be carried out at the accessible connection points using a suitable tool.

1. Open the tailgate.
2. Remove trim panel for window frame at the center -1-  .

   1. 2.1. Loosen the outer clips by pressing on the marked areas -A-  .
   2. 2.2. Lift off trim panel for window frame at the center -1-  using a suitable tool -2-  .
   3. 2.3. Pull off trim panel for window frame at the center. -B- 
3. Remove trim panels for window frame at the side -1-  .
   1. 3.1. Loosen clips using a suitable tool.
   2. 3.2. Remove trim panels for window frame at the side -1-  by pulling them off gently.

4. Detach lower part of trim panel at the rear.
   1. 4.1. Unclip cover -1-  on the fastening screw in the finger plate using a screwdriver.

   2. 4.2. Unscrew and remove fastening screw -1-  on finger plate -2-  .

   3. 4.3. Remove finger plate -2-  .
   4. 4.4. Unclip covers -1-  .

   5. 4.5. Unscrew fastening screws -2-  .
   6. 4.6. Unscrew fastening screws -1-  .

   7. 4.7. Unscrew fastening screws -1-  under the finger plate.

   8. 4.8. Unclip luggage compartment lamps -1-  .

   9. 4.9. Release electric plug connections. -A- 
   10. 4.10. Disconnect electric plug connections -2-  . -B- 
   11. 4.11. Unscrew expanding screws on rubber stops -1-  .

   12. 4.12. Remove rubber stop -1-  .
5. Carefully loosen the clips -marking-  on the lower part of the trim panel -1-  at the marked areas using a suitable tool.

6. Pull off lower part of trim panel -1-  .
