Removing Primary Catalytic Converter On Left Side

  1. Primary catalytic converter on left side
  2. Bottom holder on transmission housing
  3. Top holder on transmission bell housing
  4. Clamp on flange for turbocharger

  1. Unclip electric plug connections -1-  for the oxygen sensors in the engine compartment at the left and remove them sideways -arrows-  . Release and disconnect electric plug connections.

  2. Check that the cables are routed correctly!

  3. Unclip cable on the left cylinder bank.
  4. Remove heat shield -1-  on the drive shaft.
    1. 4.1. Unscrew fastening screws -2-  .
    2. 4.2. Set the heat shield down on the drive shaft.

  5. Unclip cables at the transmission housing and at the pressure lines.
  6. Pull oxygen sensor cables downwards.
    1. 6.1. Fasten the cables to a suitable cord so that you can pull them up again during installation.
    2. 6.2. Pull the cables down past the high-pressure pump.
  7. Loosen clamping sleeve -1-  for the exhaust pipe.
    1. 7.1. Loosen clamping screws -2-  .
    2. 7.2. Slide clamping sleeves -1-  to the rear -arrow-  .

  8. Unscrew nut -1-  on the bottom holder -2-  .

  9. Unscrew screw -1-  on the top holder -2-  .

    Information 

    • Access to the clamps between the heat shield on the all-wheel drive transmission at the front and the turbocharger is very restricted. 
    • Use a narrow tool (sockets, extensions). Use jointed sockets if necessary. 
  10. Unscrew screw -1-  on the clamp -2-  and remove clamp -2-  .

  11. Remove primary catalytic converter.
