Removing Exhaust System
CAUTION:
Hot components
- Risk of burns
→ Let hot components cool down.
→ Wear personal protective gear.
CAUTION:
Heavy components
- Risk of squashing
- Remove reinforcement plate -1- on cardan shaft tunnel.
- Remove strutting -1- from the underbody.
- Support the exhaust system with a transmission jack -1- .
- Position transmission jack under exhaust system so that both pipes are supported together at the end of the cardan shaft tunnel.
- Guide tension strap around both pipes and fasten. Raise exhaust system slightly.
- Loosen both clamping sleeves. Push the clamps backwards onto the exhaust system. The clamping sleeves -arrow- must not be re-used.
- Loosen the rear holders for the left and right rear silencers. Unscrew each of the two sets of fastening screws to do this -1- .
- Loosen centre holder -2- on the left and right. Unscrew each of the two sets of fastening screws to do this.
- Remove connecting strut -3- between the rear silencers.
- Remove exhaust system downwards by lowering the transmission lifter.
- When removing the exhaust system, carefully push the rear silencers together and guide them downwards and out from the rear apron. Rear silencers make slight contact with heat shields of rear apron during this operation.
