Removing Drive Belt

CAUTION: Drive belt removed incorrectly
  • Risk of damage to drive belt

→ Only remove the drive belt when it is cold.

→ Replace damaged drive belt.

CAUTION: Drive belt breaks and becomes jammed
  • Risk of damage to components (trim panels, electric cables, etc.)
  • Leaks at the crankshaft vibration damper sealing ring
  • Vibration damper can overheat and lose its strength

→ Following belt breakage, check adjacent components and the interior of the engine compartment for damage. Repair or replace damaged parts.

→ Find out why the belt broke. Check deflection rollers or crankshaft vibration dampers for prior damage.

→ If the drive belt is jammed, replace the vibration damper.

WARNING: Rotating components
  • Danger of limbs being trapped or severed

→ Disconnect power supply to the drive motor of components or to the battery.

CAUTION:
  • Danger of irreparable damage if a previously used drive belt is set to move in the opposite rolling direction. 

Before removing the drive belt, mark the rolling direction for re-installation with chalk or a felt-tipped pen.

  1. Mark the rolling direction of the drive belt with chalk.
  2. Remove drive belt.
    1. 2.1. Turn the belt tensioner in -direction of arrow-  to relieve tension on the drive belt.
    2. 2.2. Lock the tensioning device using locking pin T10060 A  .
    3. 2.3. Remove drive belt.
