Assembling Gear Housing

  1. Screw plug
  2. Snap ring
  3. Snap ring
  4. Outer bearing ring
  5. Snap ring
  6. Snap ring
  7. Outer bearing ring
  8. Ball sleeve
  9. Ball sleeve
  10. Ball sleeve
  11. Ball sleeve
  12. Screw plug
  13. Compression spring
  14. Locking pin
  15. Lock washer
  16. Shift lever
  17. Shift segment
  18. Roller
  19. Shaft seal
  20. Bearing sleeve
  21. Rubber washer
  22. Gear housing
  1. Install bearing sleeves.

    ! 

    Drive-in bearing sleeves -20-  using special tool pressure piece 9648/1  .

  2. Install shaft seal.

    Replace shaft seal! 

    Pack grease into space between dust- and sealing lip (e.g. Liqui Moly) fullen.

    Drive in shaft seal -19-  using special tool pressure piece 9649/1  .

  3. Install gearshift lever.

    Insert gearshift lever with rubber mallet -16, 20-  from outside.

  4. Install shift segment with roller.

    1. 4.1. Mount shift segment with roller -17, 18-  from inside onto gearshift lever.
    2. 4.2. Mount lock washer -15-  .
  5. Install screw plug with retaining bolt and compression spring.

    Insert retaining bolt, compression spring and screw plug -12, 13, 14-  .

  6. Install ball sleeves.

    Replace ball sleeves! 

    Drive in ball sleeves -9, 10-  using special tool Pressure Piece 9648  .

    Use short side (installation depth: 0.6 mm) of special tool.

  7. Install ball sleeves.

    Drive in ball sleeves -8, 11-  using special tool Pressure Piece 9648  . Use long side (installation depth: 1.4 mm) of special tool.

    → Tightening torque: 20 Nm (15 ft. lb.) 

  8. Insert snap rings (no. 3 or 6 in overview) into the groove of the outer bearing ring.
  9. Install outer bearing ring.
    1. 9.1. Drive in outer bearing ring -4, 7-  using special tool Pressure Piece P 254 B  or special tool Pressure Piece P 254 A And Special Tool Pull-In Tool And Extractor P 254  from the outside.
    2. 9.2. Insert snap rings -2, 5-  .
  10. Install screw plug.

    Turn in screw plug -1-  .

    → Tightening torque: 30 Nm (22 ft. lb.) 

  11. Install gear housing.
