Information

If cold or excessively low-tempered components are sealed to each other by applying sealant, leaks can occur because of condensed water forming or components distorting. Components must have a uniform temperature of at least 17°C.

Information

  1. Clean and degrease the sealing faces of the engine and chain housing cover.

    Information

Carefully apply Loctite 5900 sealant and make sure that no sealant gets into the bolt holes when joining the chain housing cover.

Loctite 5900 can increase the friction coefficient of the aluminium screw. The sealant must not overflow.

  2. Fit the new metal seals on the chain housing cover. Fill the openings in the metal seals with sealant. Apply sealant at the specified markings on the engine Applying sealant (fill openings in metal seal with sealant) Chain housing cover seals.  Apply the sealant in such a way that no excess sealant can expand into the engine when the chain housing cover is fitted (blocked oil ducts).

Applying sealant (filling openings in metal seal)

When chain housing cover is fitted, apply sealant to joint before fitting valve covers
When chain housing cover is fitted, apply sealant to joint before fitting valve covers
  3. When fitting the chain housing cover, press the tensioning rail away from the sprocket (cylinder 1) towards the timing chain using a screwdriver (second worker required).
  4. Fit chain housing cover straight on without letting it slip out of place.
  5. Screw down all fastening screws by hand. At this stage, the screw heads should not be all the way down.

    Information

    • The chain housing cover must be aligned using a dial gauge or steel gauge.
    • The chain housing cover must not project over the lower part of the crankcase. Even the slightest projection must be corrected.
    • It must not be less than (-Dimension A-) 1/10 mm (-Dimension A < 1/10 mm-).
  6. Press the chain housing cover up slightly and tighten the four fastening screws (approx. 1 - 2 Nm/0.5 -1.5 ftlb.) so that the chain housing cover is slightly jammed. Then align the chain housing cover.
  7. Align chain housing cover within 5 minutes and screw it on.
