Installing rubber mounting for final drive

  1. If the spindle cannot be pushed through the through-hole on the inner core of the rubber mounting, it must be drilled.
    WARNING: Risk of damage or injury from foreign bodies flying around during grinding, drilling and milling
    • Risk of eye injuries

    → Wear protective goggles.

  2. Drill out new rubber mounting.
    1. 2.1. Carefully clamp new rubber mounting -2-  horizontally in the vice as shown using protective jaws -1-  , making sure not to damage the outer sleeve of the rubber mounting -2-  .
    2. 2.2. Position drill -3-  with the drill bit on the rubber mounting and drill out the through-hole in several steps.
    3. 2.3. Step 1, drill bit diameter: 11 mm
    4. 2.4. Step 2, drill bit diameter: 11.5 mm
    5. 2.5. Step 3, drill bit diameter: 12 mm

  3. Clean rubber mounting and bore.
    1. 3.1. All components must be at room temperature.
    2. 3.2. Clean rubber mounting and bore several times using LOCTITE 7063  and wipe dry with a new disposable cloth or paper towel.
    3. 3.3. Repeat the cleaning process until there is no longer any dirt on the cleaning cloth.
    4. 3.4. Allow components to dry off for at least 2 minutes.
    5. 3.5. Roughen the bonding area of the rubber mounting and bore with a clean 120-grit emery cloth.
    6. 3.6. If a bonded rubber mounting was removed, the adhesive residue must be completely removed from the bore.
    7. 3.7. Clean rubber mounting and bore several times using LOCTITE 7063  and wipe dry with a new disposable cloth or paper towel.
    8. 3.8. Repeat the cleaning process until there is no longer any dirt on the cleaning cloth.
    9. 3.9. Allow components to dry off for at least 2 minutes.
  4. Apply adhesive.
    1. 4.1. Apply LOCTITE 638 adhesive as a bead on the joining areas of the rubber mounting and bore and immediately press rubber mounting in quickly.

  5. Apply marking → Marking  diagonally with respect to the grooves.

    a = 90°

    Insert rubber mounting with the applied marking in such a way that the marking is facing exactly in direction of travel.

  6. Fit assembly fixture as shown → Pressing in rubber mounting  and press in rubber mounting.

    • Rubber mounting -4- 
    • /3 Thrust washer T40186 -5- 
    • /4 Support ring T10205A-6- 
    • Hydraulic cylinder -7- 
    • /4 Nut T10254 -8- 
    • /5 Spindle T10254-9- 
    1. 6.1. Pull rubber mounting -4-  as far as it will go into the unit carrier -3-  .
    2. 6.2. Visually inspect the unit carrier -3-  for paint damage and correct paint damage if necessary.

  7. Leave pressed-in rubber mounting to harden for at least 12 hours at a room temperature of at least 20°C. The bonded area must not be moved or subjected to mechanical pressure.
  8. Remove excess adhesive that has not yet hardened with a cloth (without cleaner).
  9. Rubber mountings that have been pressed out must not be re-used.
  10. Perform further installation in reverse order. Pay particular attention to the following:
    1. 10.1. Use new screws to secure rear axle housing at front to the body.
    2. 10.2. Tightening torque for rear axle housing at front to body. Initial tightening 115 Nm (85 ft. lb.) Final tightening +90°
