Removing rubber mounting for final drive

  1. Remove stone guard -2-  .

  2. Engine and gearbox jack WE 1599  must be positioned under the rear axle housing -1-  with a suitable piece of wood -2-  underneath. Also secure rear axle housing with strapping belts 9454  .

  3. Unscrew fastening screws -1-  at the front of the rear axle carrier on both sides of the vehicle.

  4. Screw in the screws you removed earlier at the left and right as shown → Gap for screws  into the body until there is a gap -a-  of 4 cm.

  5. Assembly tool T10254  must be fitted.
    1. 5.1. Unscrew screw -2-  .
    2. 5.2. Lower the unit carrier by 4 cm.
    3. 5.3. Press the final drive up over the cardan shaft -1-  .
    4. 5.4. /5 Spindle T10254 -4-  , /1 pressure piece T40186 -6-  and /4 nut T10254 -5-  must be fitted. The help of another person is required.
    5. 5.5. The pin on the /5 spindle T10254 -4-  must be pointing downwards.
    6. 5.6. When pressing the rubber mounting out and in, make sure that the /5 spindle T10254 -4-  is not touching the threaded bore on the final drive -3-  .
    7. 5.7. If the /5 spindle T10254 -4-  cannot be pushed through the through-hole on the inner core of the rubber mounting, it must be drilled.

    WARNING: Risk of damage or injury from foreign bodies flying around during grinding, drilling and milling
    • Risk of eye injuries

    → Wear protective goggles.

  6. Drill out rubber mounting.
    1. 6.1. The rubber-metal mount must be drilled in several steps using drill bits with different diameters.
    2. 6.2. While drilling, make sure that the drill bit does not damage the threaded bore on the final drive. Place a suitable object in between if necessary.
    3. 6.3. Position drill -1-  with the drill bit on the rubber mounting -2-  and drill out the through-hole in several steps.
    4. 6.4. Step 1, drill bit diameter: 11 mm
    5. 6.5. Step 2, drill bit diameter: 11.5 mm
    6. 6.6. Step 3, drill bit diameter: 12 mm

  7. If necessary, the support may have to be unscrewed and the support (T10205/13) from the assembly tool T10205A  set may have to be screwed in instead using the small  internal diameter of the hydraulic cylinder -VAS 6178-  .

    WARNING: Hold the hydraulic cylinder -VAS 6178- tightly while pressing out components.
    • The rubber mounting suddenly becomes loose. Danger of injury if the tools fall down.
  8. Position assembly fixture on the rubber mounting as shown → Assembly fixture on rubber mounting  and press out the rubber mounting.
    • /4 Nut T10254-1- 
    • /1 Pressure piece T40186 -2- 
    • Unit carrier -3- 
    • /3 Pipe T40033-4- 
    • /4 Support ring T10205A -5- 
    • Hydraulic cylinder WE 1284-6- 
    • /4 Nut T10254 -7- 
    • /5 Spindle T10254 -8-  . The pin must be pointing downwards.
