Removing wire harness for engine
Information
- Some of the repair illustrations show only one side of the vehicle or a similar component .
- Naturally, some steps also have to be performed on the opposite side of the vehicle as well .

Disconnect engine wire harness sub-part at the bottom right:
- Pull out locking mechanism on electric plug connection -1- on the steering control unit -a- , press release -b- and disconnect electric plug connection.
- Unclip wire harness holder -2-
at the engine oil pan.
- Pull out locking mechanism on electric plug connection -1- on the crankshaft pulse sender -a- , press locking mechanism -b- and disconnect electric plug connection.
- Unclip wire harness holders -2-
at the engine oil pan and oil line.
- Release electric plug connection -1- on the oil level sensor -a- and disconnect it.
- Unclip wire harness holders -2- at the coolant line.
- Unclip wire harness holders -3-
at the oil pan.
- Release electric plug connection -1- on the oil pressure sender with temperature sensor and disconnect it.
- Unclip wire harness holder -2-
at the coolant line.
- Unscrew fastening screws -1-
for the coolant line -2-
.
- Loosen wiring duct -3-
.
- 11.1. Unclip line -1- from the cable duct.
- 11.2. Unscrew fastening screw -2- .
Disconnect engine wire harness sub-part at the bottom left:
- Release electric plug connection -1- on the oil level sensor and disconnect it.
- Unclip wire harness holders -2-
at the oil pan and coolant line.
- Release electric plug connection -1- on the air-conditioning compressor -a- and disconnect it.
- Unclip wire harness holder -2-
at the refrigerant line.
- Pull off wire harness holders -1-
at the cylinder head cover and prise them off the retaining strip at the side.
Disconnect engine wire harness sub-part for transmission:
- Release electric plug connection -1- on the transfer gear control unit -a- and disconnect it.
- Pull off wire harness holders -2-
at the transfer gear and Porsche Doppelkupplung (PDK).
- Pull out locking mechanism on electric plug connection -1- on the PDK temperature sensor -a- , press locking mechanism -b- and disconnect electric plug connection.
- Turn electric plug connection -2- for the PDK hydraulic unit approx. 90° anti-clockwise and disconnect it.
- Pull off wire harness holders -3-
at the Porsche Doppelkupplung (PDK).
- Loosen lines for ATF cooling and guide the engine wire harness sub-part for transmission under the lines for ATF cooling. → 386219 REMOVING AND INSTALLING LINE FOR ATF COOLING
Loosen engine wire harness sub-part at the top:
- Disconnect electric plug connections -1-
on the ignition coils on cylinders 1-3 and cylinders 4-6. → 282020 REMOVING AND INSTALLING IGNITION COILS
- 23.1. Unscrew fastening screws -2- from the wiring ducts.
- 23.2. Release and disconnect electric plug connections -a- .
- Unscrew fastening screw -3-
for the wiring duct on the left valve cover.
- Release electric plug connection -1-
on the engine-compartment temperature sensor -a-
and disconnect it.
- Unscrew fastening screws -1- and remove heat shields -2- on the left and right cylinder head.
- Release electric plug connections -3- on hydraulic valve for variable valve lift switchover for cylinders 1-3 and cylinders 4-6 -a- and disconnect them.
- Release electric plug connections -4-
on hall senders for the outlet camshaft for cylinders 1-3 and cylinders 4-6 -b-
and disconnect them.
- Release electric plug connection -1- on the coolant temperature sensor -a- and disconnect it.
- Unclip wire harness holder -2-
at the crankcase.
- Release electric plug connections -1- on high-pressure pumps for cylinders 1-3 and cylinders 4-6 -a- and disconnect them.
- Release electric plug connections -2- on hall senders for the intake camshaft for cylinders 1-3 and cylinders 4-6 -b- and disconnect them.
- Unclip wire harness holders -3-
at the fuel lines.
- Release locking mechanisms for electric plug connections -1, 2, 3-
on the fuel injectors for cylinders 1-3 and cylinders 4-6 -a-
, press locking mechanisms and pull them off -b-
.
- Release electric plug connection -1- on fuel pressure sensor (low-pressure) -a- and disconnect it.
- Cut tie-wrap -2- .
- Release electric plug connection -3-
(-b-
) and disconnect it.
- Unscrew fastening nut -1- on electric line for terminal 50 -2- and remove electric line for terminal 50 at the starter.
- Unscrew fastening nut -3-
on electric B+ line -4-
and remove electric B+ line at the starter.
- Release electric plug connections -1-
on knock sensors for cylinders 1-3 and cylinders 4-6 -a-
and disconnect them.
- Release electric plug connection on vacuum sensor for diagnosis -2-
(-a-
) and disconnect it -b-
.
- Release electric plug connection -1-
on expansion element -a-
and disconnect it -b-
.
Information
Do not confuse the plug connection at the actuators for camshaft control. Given the similar design of the plug connections on the intake and outlet camshafts, these must be marked for re-installation during removal.
- Mark electric plug connections -1- on actuators for cylinders 1-3 and on actuators for cylinders 4-6 so that they do not get mixed up.
- Release locking mechanisms for electric plug connections -1- on actuators for cylinders 1-3 and cylinders 4-6 -a- , press locking mechanisms -b- and pull them off.
- Unclip wire harness holders -2- at the cylinder head and vacuum line.
- Loosen fastening screw -3-
on holder for the left cylinder head.
- Unscrew fastening screw -2-
and disconnect coolant vent line -1-
.
- Unscrew fastening screws -1, 2-
from wiring ducts and remove them.
- Disengage line bracket -1- on the engine wire harness -2- and pull it off in an upward direction.
- Open line bracket and remove electric connector -3-
.
- Unscrew fastening screws -1, 2, 3- on the wiring ducts.
- Carefully remove engine wire harness from the engine.
- 52.1. Remove terminal 30 line from the connection at the starter.
