Installing Front Side Airbag

→ Switch off ignition and remove ignition key or remote control (hand-held transmitter).

→ A power supply (e.g. battery charger) must not be connected to the external power supply/jump-lead starting terminals.

→ Disconnect the battery and insulate the ground strap so that all contact with a ground carrier is avoided.

→ Wait 1 minute after disconnecting the battery.

→ Only pull off connector on the triggering unit after the waiting time has elapsed.

→ Make sure that no foreign objects are located in front of the airbag unit during installation.

→ Replace damaged parts during removal.

→ Always position airbag units so that the blow-out opening is facing upwards, e.g. crest on driver's airbag.

→ Do not position anything on the airbag units.

→ If removed for an extended period, the airbag units must be stored in a safe place.

→ Airbag units must not come into contact with grease, oil, detergents, liquids, or similar substances.

→ Do not expose airbag units to temperatures above 90°.

→ Do not remove the short-circuit spring on the plug-in contacts.

→ Ignition and preparations may only be carried out by skilled staff, supervised by a second responsible person.

→ Before disposal, the airbag unit must be rendered harmless by electrical ignition performed in accordance with all precautionary measures, thereby preventing it from being used incorrectly.

1. Plug in electric plug connection -2-  and lock it by moving the locking mechanism -1-  in direction of arrow on the front side airbag -3-  . Plug in electric plug connection (ground cable).

2. Insert the front side airbag -1-  into the opening in the seat backrest.

3. Tighten the two fastening screws on the front side airbag to the prescribed tightening torque. For vehicles with Adaptive sports seats plus, the air cushion must be pushed aside slightly to do this. Tightening torque 7.5 Nm (5.5 ftlb.) 
4. Engage cover for front backrest all the way around -arrows-  .

5. Engage cover for backrest -1-  to the cushion carrier -2-  and slide outwards -arrows-  .

6. Engage the middle backrest cover onto the rear of the backrest shell -1-  (-arrows-  ) using a plastic wedge -2-  to push it into the clips -3-  .

7. Fold up cover with cushion -arrow-  .

   1. 7.1. Only for cover with seat ventilation:  Press air-guide cowl against backrest -arrow A-  and clip to backrest -arrows B-  .

8. Secure front cover.
   1. 8.1. Engage cover -1-  at the top in the backrest frame -2-  (-arrow B-  ).
   2. 8.2. Press in cover -1-  in the middle -arrows A-  until the locking lugs at the side engage.
