Coding TV Tuner

NOTE: Voltage drop
  • Risk of irreparable damage to control unit
  • Risk of damage to control unit
  • Fault entries in the control unit
  • Coding in the control unit is aborted
  • Malfunctions in control unit, even during programming

→ Prior to disconnecting the control unit, switch off ignition and remove ignition key.

→ Ensure that the power supply is not interrupted during programming.

→ Connect a battery charger with a current rating of at least → Nominal value: 40 A  to the vehicle battery.

The PIWIS Tester II 9818  instructions take precedence since the description may be different with later Tester releases.

The procedure described here has been structured in general terms; different text or additions may appear in PIWIS Tester II 9818.

The procedure described must be applied when a control unit has to be replaced and the tester function Control unit replacement  cannot be used.

  1. PIWIS Tester II 9818  must be connected to the vehicle and ignition switched on.
  2. Select the vehicle type  and start the PIDT.
  3. Carry out an automatic control unit search.
  4. Press [F12] to switch from the vehicle type to the list of control units.
  5. Select TV tuner  and Coding/adaptation  with the cursor keys and press [F12].
  6. In the Coding/adaptation  menu, the coding values must be adapted according to the vehicle equipment, configurations or country-specific variants.
    1. 6.1. Select Video standard AV input  PAL or NTSC (depending on the country) and press [F12] to confirm your selection. Then press [F8] to start coding.
    2. 6.2. Set Rear Seat Entertainment video/audio output  to inactive or active (depending on vehicle model and vehicle equipment) and press [F12]. Then press [F8] to start coding.
    3. 6.3. Set antenna configuration vehicle coding  to 9x7 or Cayenne (depending on vehicle model) and press [>>] to confirm. Then press [F8] to start coding.
    4. 6.4. Select Country setting,  e.g. Northern, Central, Southern or South-Eastern Europe (depending on country) and press [F12] to confirm your selection. Then press [F8] to start coding.
  7. Exit the menu and check the TV function in PCM.
  8. Then read out the fault memory.
