Replacing Display And Operator Control Unit (PCM 3.0)

→ Prior to disconnecting the control unit, switch off the ignition and remove the ignition key.

→ Ensure that the power supply is not interrupted during programming.

→ Connect a battery charger with a current rating of at least → Nominal value: 40 A  to the vehicle battery.

Information 

• If a new PCM/CDR is to be installed in a vehicle, the enabling code specified in the PIWIS information system must be used. 
• You can get the codes from the PIWIS Infosystem or from your importer by specifying the vehicle identification number. 
• During coding, it is essential to guarantee the power supply for the PIWIS Tester 9718. A battery charger with a current rating of at least 40 A must be connected to the vehicle battery. 
• The PIWIS Tester 9718 instructions take precedence and in the event of a discrepancy these are the instructions that must be followed. Deviations may occur with later software versions. 
• The procedure described here has been structured in general terms; different text may appear in the PIWIS Tester 9718 or additional information/steps may be displayed or required. 

Information 

If the PCM unit is to be replaced with a new unit, the navigation data must be installed using a Software Update navigation CD/DVD. 

• To enable you to actually install the Software Update navigation data, you must read out the enabling code from the PIWIS information system. Additional enabling codes, e.g. customer has navigation system for Europe and Russia, or customer has already obtained navigation updates, must be queried by customer service personnel at the customer site. 
• The Software Update navigation CD/DVD is sent to every Porsche importer/Porsche dealer, who is registered to automatically receive special tools or PIWIS Tester releases. 
• Each dealer receives one Software Update navigation CD/DVD , depending on the country. 
• If additional Software Update navigation CDs/DVDs are required, e.g. if the customer needs both Europe and Russia, the CDs/DVDs can also be ordered via PET. 
• The Software Update navigation CD/DVD must not be handed over to the customer. This CD/DVD can only be used with the PIWIS Tester 9718. 
• The Software Update navigation CD/DVD that corresponds to the relevant vehicle model year must always be used for the required PCM unit, e.g. if the vehicle model year is 2009, the CD/DVD for 2009 must be used. This applies even if CDs/DVDs for 2010 are available. 
• The model year-based Software Update navigation CD/DVD must always be archived in the Porsche Centre. 
• Further changes/supplements to the Software Update navigation CD/DVD can also be obtained. These will have to be used later for older vehicles. For example, CDs/DVDs for 2010 are already available, but an error was found on the 2009 version, so the old CD/DVD for 2009 will have to be replaced with an updated CD/DVD for 2009. This process will be announced in a TI. 
• Current compatibility with Bluetooth telephones can always be checked out at www.porsche.com. 

1. PIWIS Tester 9718  must be connected to the vehicle before starting it. Switch on the ignition and press [>>] to continue.
2. Select vehicle type.
3. Switch from the vehicle type to the list of control units.
4. Select PCM  using the cursor keys and press [>>].
5. Select PCM3,  then Control unit replacement  in the PCM  menu and press [>>].
6. Select Read out values (coding/user data)  using the cursor keys and press [>>].
7. The PIWIS Tester screen displays the message Values (coding/user data) were read out [>>]. 
8. Switch off ignition and replace PCM3.
9. Switch on the ignition. After you have replaced PCM3, the data that was read out (see Step  6) is installed when you select Write values (coding/user data).  Press [>>] to continue.
10. Change to the Coding menu [>>]  . Check the coding for the vehicle in the menus Vehicle variant, Individual memory, Other  and recode it according to the vehicle equipment if necessary.
11. Compare the vehicle identification number (VIN) that was entered with the actual VIN in the Vehicle variant  menu. If this VIN does not match the vehicle, no functions  can be coded using the enabling code.
12. In the Coding  menu, select Enabling code [>>]  .
    1. 12.1. The PIWIS Tester displays all the possible enabling codes. The enabling codes for which the text installed/not enabled/not functional  appears under "PCM enabling code, Navigation" for example, must now be called up one after the other.
    2. 12.2. Using the codes from the PIWIS system, call up the menus, enter the relevant enabling code  and press [F8] to start coding.
    3. 12.3. If the codes match, the text will change to installed/enabled/functional. 
13. Exit the PCM3  menu - PCM3 leaves Service mode. 
14. Insert the Software Update navigation CD/DVD  into the PCM3 unit .
15. Confirm the messages on the PCM unit, start the update  according to instructions and leave it running.
16. PCM then displays the message Update to version completed successfully.  Confirm this info on the touchscreen.
17. Check the audio, telephone, TV and navigation functions, depending on vehicle equipment.
18. Read out the fault memory for the PCM  unit.
