Connectors - General Information

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2010 Porsche Cayenne, 2009 Porsche Cayenne, and 2008 Porsche Cayenne. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.

Information 

For repairing wire harnesses, the wire harnesses listed in step 1 are only offered as complete units, without exchanging individual connectors.

For repairing or replacing connectors on wire harnesses which do not have to be completely replaced, the correct procedure is listed under Step  2 and  3.

  1. Wire harnesses which are replaced only as a complete unit. 
    1. 1.1. Wire harness for door sub-frame and wire harness for door panel.
    2. 1.2. Wire harness for rear-view mirror → 974319 REMOVING AND INSTALLING WIRE HARNESS FOR REAR-VIEW MIRROR 
    3. 1.3. Front wire harness → 971619 REMOVING AND INSTALLING FRONT WIRE HARNESS 
    4. 1.4. Wire harness for bonnet → 971319 REMOVING AND INSTALLING WIRE HARNESS IN ENGINE COMPARTMENT 
    5. 1.5. Rear wire harness → WM 635537 DISASSEMBLING AND ASSEMBLING REAR APRON
    6. 1.6. Wire harness for tailgate and wire harness for rear window → 972719 REMOVING AND INSTALLING WIRE HARNESS FOR TAILGATE 
    7. 1.7. Wire harness for spare wheel mount → 974919 REMOVING AND INSTALLING WIRE HARNESS FOR SPARE WHEEL MOUNT 
    8. 1.8. Wire harness for removable trailer hitch → 972419 REMOVING AND INSTALLING WIRE HARNESS FOR REMOVABLE TRAILER HITCH 
    9. 1.9. Wire harness for engine → Removing Main Wiring Harness - Engine Compartment  and → Installing Main Wiring Harness - Engine Compartment 
    10. 1.10. Wire harness in transmission → WM 381819 REMOVING AND INSTALLING WIRE HARNESS IN TRANSMISSION
    11. 1.11. Wire harness for battery wiring → 974519 REMOVING AND INSTALLING WIRE HARNESS FOR STARTER BATTERY 
    12. 1.12. Wire harness for auxiliary heating → 976119 REMOVING AND INSTALLING WIRE HARNESS FOR AUXILIARY HEATING 
    13. 1.13. Antenna leads → 912855 REPLACING THE ANTENNA LEADS
  2. Connectors contained in the Repair kit for Cayenne wire harnesses Nr.155-2 and can be replaced individually. 
    NOTE: Using plug-in contacts made of different materials
    • Oxidation of plug-in contacts

    → Only use the plug contacts listed in the wiring diagram for the corresponding plug connection. Always plug gold contacts together with gold contacts.

    → The wiring diagrams can be displayed using PIWIS Tester II 9818. 

    For repairing wire harnesses, individual connectors are available in a Repair kit for Cayenne wire harnesses Nr.155-2.  This Repair kit for Cayenne wire harnesses Nr.155-2  primarily contains connectors that are installed in crash and external areas.

    The Repair kit for Cayenne wire harnesses Nr.155-2  contains detailed descriptions about removing and installing individual plug contacts.

  3. Connectors not contained in the Repair kit for Cayenne wire harnesses Nr.155-2. 

    Connectors not contained in the Repair kit for Cayenne wire harnesses Nr.155-2  can be ordered from CARTOOL.

    The order must contain the following specifications.

    1. 3.1. Variant 1 for identifying the required connector:
    2. 3.1.1. Legible specifications of the manufacturer on the connector, e.g. complete item number, number of pins, housing colour, and whether pin or plug socket.
    3. 3.1.2. If the data specified under Variant 1 is not legible, is incomplete, or not present, Variant 2 can be used for ordering connectors.
    4. 3.2. Variant 2 for identifying the required connector:
    5. 3.2.1. Vehicle type
    6. 3.2.2. Model year
    7. 3.2.3. PORSCHE part number from the parts catalogue
    8. 3.2.4. Which wire harness (e.g. main wire harness, wire harness for engine, etc.)
    9. 3.2.5. Specifications from the wiring diagram
      1. Page number
      2. Field
      3. Component (for components with multiple connectors, e.g. instrument cluster, please specify connector 1, 2, 3, etc.)
      4. Connection point (e.g. X11, X12, etc.)
    10. 3.3. Variant 3 for identifying the required connector:
    11. 3.3.1. Call up the relevant wiring diagram in PIWIS Tester II 9818. 
    12. 3.3.2. Click on one of the plug contacts of the required connector with the mouse.

      Information 

      The specifications displayed are subject to a constant updating process. For this reason, it can happen that specifications are incomplete or not available. If this is the case, use one of the other versions for ordering connectors if possible.

    13. 3.3.3. Note all displayed specifications for this connector and provide this information when ordering the connector.
    14. 3.4. If all the data listed under Variant 1 to Variant 3 is supplied, CARTOOL will be able to identify the correct connectors.
