Removing Timing Chain
WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2010 Porsche Cayenne, 2009 Porsche Cayenne, and 2008 Porsche Cayenne. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
Information
If the timing chain has to be removed or replaced, check the guide and tensioning rails as well as the chain pinions for wear and scoring and replace them if necessary.
Information
- The rolling direction of the timing chain must always be the same.
- If the timing chain is to be reused, the rolling direction of the timing chain must be marked before it is removed.
- Loosen the fastening screws on the camshaft timing gears and camshaft controllers (by one or two turns). To do this, counter at the hexagon on the camshaft controller and camshaft timing gear using a ring wrench.
- Remove timing chain from all sprockets by pulling it forwards.
