Installing Longitudinal Member For Wheel Housing Upper Section

WARNING: Body repairs not carried out properly
  • Unintentional triggering of airbag and seat-belt pretensioner
  • Risk of damage to control units for airbag and seat-belt pretensioner units

→ Only apply MIG welds on the side member using the welders authorized.

→ Do not butt-weld thick body panels (more than → Length: +1.5 mm  thick) without a welding gap during MIG welding.

→ To achieve the required welding quality, maintain the specified welding gap.

→ Do not grind down the welded seams.

Installation position of longitudinal member for wheel housing upper section 

  1. Support for wing mounting point
  2. Longitudinal member for inner wheel housing upper section
  3. Longitudinal member for outer wheel housing upper section
  1. Fix the longitudinal member for the wheel housing upper section to the body.
    1. 1.1. Place the longitudinal member for the wheel housing upper section (inner and outer) on the body and fix in place with the straightening bracket. Fix the longitudinal member for the wheel housing upper section to the remaining piece on the body using tensioning clamps.

  2. Weld in outer support for wing mounting point.
    1. 2.1. Resistance spot-weld the outer wing mounting point support in areas -A and B-  .

    2. 2.2. MIG weld outer support for wing mounting point in area -C-  .

  3. Weld in inner support for wing mounting point.
    1. 3.1. MIG weld inner support for wing mounting point in area -A-  .

  4. Weld in longitudinal member for inner wheel housing upper section.
    1. 4.1. MIG weld longitudinal member for inner wheel housing upper section in area -A-  .

  5. Weld in longitudinal member for outer wheel housing upper section.
    1. 5.1. Resistance spot-weld longitudinal member for outer wheel housing upper section in areas -A, B and D-  .

    2. 5.2. MIG weld longitudinal member for outer wheel housing upper section in areas -C and E-  .
    3. 5.3. Plug-weld longitudinal member for outer wheel housing upper section in areas -F and G-  using inert gas.
