Removing Sealing Ring For Vibration Balancer
WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2010 Porsche Cayenne, 2009 Porsche Cayenne, and 2008 Porsche Cayenne. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
Information
The sealing ring behind the vibration balancer cannot be replaced separately, instead it is integrated into the joint flange. The entire joint flange must be replaced in the event of leaks.
The oil pan must first be removed to ensure that the seal is secure. The bead of sealant may be destroyed if the oil pan remains fitted when installing the joint flange.
- Remove joint flange behind the crankshaft pulley. To do this, remove the remaining fastening screws -A- (not the screws in the removed oil pan -B- ) and lever the joint flange off using a screwdriver.
- Remove any sealant residue on all sealing faces.
- Clean crankshaft journal. Remove any oil residues from the crankshaft journal with a cloth. The crankshaft journal must not be dirty or rusty. If necessary, clean it with brake cleaner and grind off any rust with a metal-polishing pad (e.g. Never Dull).
