Installing Door Sill Guard

NOTE: Painting components

→ Observe the guidelines and instructions for painting components in the Paint Manual.

→ Always place parts without tension on the painting devices provided during painting and drying processes.

  1. Completely remove adhesive residue using a film eraser Nr.174 Pos.1  .
  2. Clean bonding surfaces, removing all oil and dust, using a cloth soaked in isopropanol and allow to dry.
  3. Affix adhesive tape → ADHESIVE TAPE onto door entry guard and cut off excess.
  4. Position door entry guard (-Pfeil-  ) on vehicle sill with the help of another person.

    Loosely pre-fit door entry guard at front using a M6 x 14 screw (-A-  , wing area) and at rear with a tapping screw (4.8 x 16; -B-  , rear wheel arch area).

  5. Position door entry guard on retaining strip on vehicle underside and attach to retaining strip with expanding rivets (8.0 x 3.5; 10 x).

    For easier fitting:

    Pull pin (-A-  ) from expanding rivet beforehand.

    Insert expansion rivet into door entry guard and then drive in pin.

  6. Heat vehicle sill and door entry guard slightly using a hot air blower Nr.155-1 Pos.2  to ensure a better bond.
    NOTE: Incorrect handling of adhesive tape
    • Risk of damage to the vehicle or paintwork
    • Risk of damage to components

    → Clean bonding surfaces to remove any dust and grease.

    → Use clean, lint-free disposable cloths for cleaning.

    → Do not touch the bonding surfaces with your fingers.

    → The object (logo, vehicle, etc.) and ambient temperature must be at least →: 15°C  .

    → Press component on with a suitable tool (rubber roller) using the prescribed amount of force.

  7. Carefully pull out protective film on adhesive tape (-A-  ) between door entry guard and vehicle sill and align door entry guard so that the gap (-X- Adjustment value: 5 mm  ) between door entry guard and lower door edges is the same over the entire length.

    Press door entry guide evenly onto the vehicle sill using a rubber roller.

    → Force: 50 - 80 N

  8. Tighten screw, M6 x 14 (1 x; -A-  ) in the wing area.

    → Tightening torque: 8 Nm (6 ftlb.)

  9. Tighten tapping screws (4.8 x 16) for door entry guard at rear (2 x -A-  ) in the wheel arch area.

    → Tightening torque: 1.5 Nm (1.0 ftlb.)+/-0.2 Nm (+/-0.15 ftlb.)
