Supporting The Engine On The Body

→ Secure components to prevent them from falling down.

Information 

Always remove the rear transport eyebolt when installing the engine before handing the vehicle over to the customer or before carrying out a test drive. Otherwise, the fitted eyebolt can cut through the fuel line at the plenum panel in the event of a frontal crash.

Information 

• The engine must be supported on the body for some repair work on the front axle and engine bearings.

1. Remove side engine cover at the rear at the plenum panel. → WM 700219 REMOVING AND INSTALLING FRONT TRIM (ENGINE COMPARTMENT)
2. Move bonnet into service position → 553119 REMOVING AND INSTALLING FRONT PNEUMATIC SPRING .
3. Fit rear red transport eyebolt 9700/2  on engine. To do this, the worker must lie on the engine with a blanket and use a workshop lamp and mirror. Proceed in the same way as for → 1001IN LIFTING THE V6 3.6 L DFI ENGINE WITH A WORKSHOP CRANE .
4. Safety device 10-222 A  must be extended using the adapter 9591/2  spacers as an aid. Position the support bracket on the inside of the wing, near the plenum panel, and align it. Then tighten the two winged nuts. →

5. Suspending device 3033  must be engaged in one hook →

   Information 

   • When assembling the suspending device, make sure that adjacent components are not scratched or damaged. 
6. Engage the rear hook of the rear left engine suspending device onto the engine in the red transport eyebolt 9700/2,  →

7. Engage front right transport hook onto engine carrier eyebolt.
8. Adjust the engine mount at the spindles. Adjusting the suspension and set it as horizontal as possible. View shows supported engine. Tension the engine slightly and make sure that the force is distributed uniformly over both spindles. Do not load the spindles at the side, and position them until they are as vertical as possible. Assemble as shown in the figures.

9. After the work is complete, make sure to remove the rear red transport eyebolt 9700/2.  Proceed in the same way as for → 1001IN LIFTING THE V6 3.6-LITRE DFI ENGINE WITH A WORKSHOP CRANE .
