Disengaging Brake Cable

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2010 Porsche Cayenne, 2009 Porsche Cayenne, and 2008 Porsche Cayenne. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
  1. Move control pedal of the foot-operated parking brake to the zero position. To do this, pull the release lever on the dashboard.
  2. Remove cover in the footwell → Removing cover under dashboard .
  3. Fix the adjustment device using an auxiliary pin (max. 3.5 mm in diameter) -see Fig 1-. In other words: press the adjustment device together -arrow-  until the assembly bores are covered and the auxiliary pin can be inserted → 466019 REMOVING AND INSTALLING ACTUATOR FOR FOOT-OPERATED PARKING BRAKE .

  4. Raise the vehicle → WM 4000V0 Lifting the vehicle .
  5. Remove the relevant rear wheel → Removing and installing wheel .
  6. Remove the brake cable from the guide of the rear axle housing and loosen it by moving it to and fro.

    Information 

    • The screw plug -arrow- of the brake disc obscures the view of the Quickfit. The Quickfit is positioned at approx. 3 o'clock to the right and approx. 9 o'clock to the left.

    • The brake discs do not have to be removed to disengage the brake cables. 
  7. Remove the screw plug -arrow-  at the brake disc.
  8. Remove the brake cable. Do not loosen the circlip! To do this, insert a screwdriver between the sleeve of the brake cable and the wheel bearing housing -see Fig 3-.

  9. Pull the sleeve of the cable -see Fig 4- as far as possible out of the wheel bearing housing.

  10. Push the cable gently into the brake drum. Use a small screwdriver inserted through the brake disc opening -see Fig 5- to press the safety spring and hexagon on the spreading lever upwards and at the same time pull the brake cable out of the brake drum.
