Removing Side Airbag

→ Switch off ignition and remove ignition key or remote control (hand-held transmitter).

→ A power supply (e.g. battery charger) must not be connected to the external power supply/jump-lead starting terminals.

→ Disconnect the battery and insulate the ground strap so that all contact with a ground carrier is avoided.

→ Wait 1 minute after disconnecting the battery.

→ Only pull off connector on the triggering unit after the waiting time has elapsed.

→ Make sure that no foreign objects are located in front of the airbag unit during installation.

→ Replace damaged parts during removal.

→ Always position airbag units so that the blow-out opening is facing upwards, e.g. crest on driver's airbag.

→ Do not position anything on the airbag units.

→ If removed for an extended period, the airbag units must be stored in a safe place.

→ Airbag units must not come into contact with grease, oil, detergents, liquids, or similar substances.

→ Do not expose airbag units to temperatures above 90°.

→ Do not remove the short-circuit spring on the plug-in contacts.

→ Ignition and preparations may only be carried out by skilled staff, supervised by a second responsible person.

→ Before disposal, the airbag unit must be rendered harmless by electrical ignition performed in accordance with all precautionary measures, thereby preventing it from being used incorrectly.

Information 

If a new component (e.g. sensor, airbag control unit, airbag unit) of the airbag system has to be installed, the new component will be supplied with a barcode sticker (tear-off label).

• Tear off the tear-off label -2- on the new component -1- and stick it under the heading Proof of airbag system check/component replacement in the Guarantee and Maintenance booklet.

• The replacement date and current mileage must be documented and the booklet must be stamped with the Center's stamp.

1. Fold away padding for front backrest at the outer side bolster. → REMOVING PADDING FOR FRONT BACKREST - section on "Removing"
2. Unscrew fastening screw -2-  on side airbag -1-  .

3. Slide the side airbag -1-  up out of the bracket -A-  and remove it from the loop -3-  (-B-  ).
   1. 3.1. On vehicles from model year 2011 to 2014, there is a possibility that the backrest padding will no longer have a loop -3-  .

      If a new backrest padding is installed, it will no longer have a loop -3-  .

4. Loosen the fixing clip -4-  .
5. Loosen tie-wrap -1-  on the seat wire harness and pull the line through the protective sleeve.

6. Loosen fixing clips -1-  under the seat.

7. Pull line for side airbag through to the backrest.
