Reading And Writing Values

NOTE: Voltage drop
  • Risk of irreparable damage to control unit
  • Risk of damage to control unit
  • Fault entries in the control unit
  • Coding in the control unit is aborted
  • Malfunctions in control unit, even during programming

→ Prior to disconnecting the control unit, switch off ignition and remove ignition key.

→ Ensure that the power supply is not interrupted during programming.

→ Connect a battery charger with a current rating of at least → Nominal value: 40 A  to the vehicle battery.

Information 

The PIWIS Tester II 9818  instructions take precedence since the description may be different with later Tester releases.

The procedure described here has been structured in general terms. Different text or additional information may appear in PIWIS Tester II 9818  .

Information 

If the instrument cluster is replaced, the fuel-level sensors must be calibrated using PIWIS Tester II 9818  .

  1. Connect the Porsche System Tester to the vehicle and start the System Tester. Switch on ignition.
  2. Select the required vehicle type.
  3. Select the required control unit Instrument cluster  in the overview  .
  4. Maintenance/repairs  must then be selected.
  5. Control unit replacement  must now be selected. Then press [F12] to continue.
  6. Read data  must be selected. Then press [F12] to continue.
  7. Press [F8] to start reading out data.
  8. Check the chassis number and press [F12] to continue.
  9. Document the total mileage.
  10. Switch off ignition and replace control unit. → 902519 REMOVING AND INSTALLING INSTRUMENT CLUSTER .
  11. Switch on ignition and select Instrument cluster  control unit.
  12. Select the menu Maintenance/repairs  , Control unit replacement  .
  13. Select Write data  and press [F12] to continue.
  14. Press [F8] to start. The data that was read out is installed.
  15. The System Tester displays the message Data has been written  . Press [F12] to continue.
  16. Select the Set total mileage  function and press [F12] to continue.
  17. Select total mileage and enter the correct current mileage (value from the "old" instrument cluster). Then press "Enter" to confirm your entry and press [F8] to write data.
  18. Follow the instructions on the Tester and press [F8] to start the process.
  19. Select the Calibrate fuel-level sensor  function and press [F12] to continue.
  20. Follow the instructions on the Tester and press [F12] to continue. The fuel tank must be completely empty. → 200317 DRAINING AND FILLING FUEL
  21. Calibrate the fuel-level sensors in accordance with the instructions on the Tester.
  22. Read out the fault memory  and erase it if necessary.
  23. Return to the control unit overview  .
  24. Check the function of the instrument cluster and fuel level gauge during the test drive.
