Removing Rear Side Member

  1. Remove boot floor plate. → 532455 REPLACING REAR TRUNK FLOOR PANEL  - section on "Removing"
  2. Remove D-pillar reinforcement (section). → 533055 REPLACING REINFORCEMENT FOR D-PILLAR (SECTION)  - chapter on "Removing"
  3. Remove (inner) rear wheel housing. → 536855 REPLACING (INNER) REAR WHEEL HOUSING  - section on "Removing"
  4. Separate rear floor section.

    1. 4.1. Drill out spotwelds using Spotweld Drill  .
    2. 4.2. Make rough cut using the body saw.
    3. 4.3. Remove rear floor section.
  5. Remove rear wheel housing reinforcement.

    1. 5.1. Drill out spotwelds.
    2. 5.2. Grind down MIG seams.
  6. Loosen welded joints.

    1. 6.1. Grind down spotwelds.
    2. 6.2. Grind down MIG seam.
  7. Loosen welded joints.

    1. 7.1. Grind down spotwelds.
    2. 7.2. Grind down MIG seams.
  8. Drill out spotwelds.

    Information 

    Drill out spotweld through two plate thicknesses.

  9. Grind down and drill out spotwelds.

  10. Grind down and drill out spotwelds.

    Information 

    Drill out spotweld through two plate thicknesses.

  11. Loosen welded joints.

    1. 11.1. Grind down and drill out spotwelds.
    2. 11.2. Grind down MIG seam.
  12. Loosen welded joints.

    1. 12.1. Grind down and drill out spotwelds.
    2. 12.2. Grind down MIG seams.
  13. Loosen welded joints.

    1. 13.1. Grind down spotwelds.
    2. 13.2. Grind down MIG seams.
  14. Separate center floor section.

    1. 14.1. Mark cut. → Distance: 260 mm → Distance: 385 mm → Distance: 245 mm 
    2. 14.2. Make cut using the body saw.
    3. 14.3. Drill out spotwelds.

    4. 14.4. Grind down MIG seams.
    5. 14.5. Heat up connection areas using a hot-air gun.

    6. 14.6. Remove center floor section.
  15. Grind down MIG seams.

  16. Heat up connection areas using a hot-air gun.

  17. Remove rear side member.
