Disassembling Rear Spring Strut (Steel Springs)
WARNING: This page does not describe the selected car, but rather 8 other vehicles, including the 2018 Porsche Cayenne, 2017 Porsche Cayenne, 2016 Porsche Cayenne, 2015 Porsche Cayenne, and 2014 Porsche Cayenne. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
WARNING:
Preloaded or pressurized components
- Risk of squashing or bruising
→ Do not reach into the danger area.
→ Relieve the tension on components before starting work.
→ Secure components to prevent them from loosening suddenly.
The next sections describe the spring struts with and without PASM.
- Vehicles with PASM: Push both grommets -1- and -2- on the connector cable to one side.
- Vehicles with PASM: Mark the position of the cables in the connector so that they can be inserted at the same position again during re-installation. Loosen the locking mechanism in the connector and unpin both cables from the connector.
- Vehicles with PASM: Remove grommets -1- and cable guide -2- by opening the grommets slightly using commercially available Seeger circlip pliers. This makes it easier to pull pins through the grommets.
- Loosen the four fastening nuts -1- on the cover uniformly and remove the cover.
- Pre-tension coil springs using a spring compressor Nr.121-1 Pos.1
and tensioning plate Nr.121-1 Pos.6
until the piston rod is relieved.
WARNING: Danger of injury due to spring tensioning.
- Never use an impact bolter to loosen or tighten the lock nut.
- Use a commercially available change-over ratchet.
- Carefully remove the lock nut on the piston rod at the supporting mount using socket-wrench insert 3353 or for PASM, socket-wrench insert 3077 .
- Remove all parts from the piston rod.
