Replacing Rear Wheel Bearing

Information 

  1. Fit the wheel bearing at a centred position under the workshop press ram.
  2. Fit wheel hub -2-  in the wheel bearing -1-  .

  3. Position a suitable pressure piece -3-  flat on the wheel hub -2-  .
  4. Carefully press the wheel hub -2-  into the wheel bearing -1-  until the pressure increases -A-  (check the pressure gauge!).
  5. Fit wheel bearing with wheel hub in the wheel bearing housing.
  6. Fit fastening screws on wheel bearing. Tighten only to the specified tightening torque! Tightening torque 80 Nm (59 ftlb.) +120° 
  7. Tighten fastening screws on wheel bearing to the specified torque angle. Tightening torque 80 Nm (59 ftlb.) +120° 
    1. 7.1. Mark one tooth of the relevant fastening screw and the wheel bearing housing -A-  .

    2. 7.2. Starting from the marked tooth, count off four teeth anti-clockwise and also mark this tooth -B-  .
    3. 7.3. Tighten the fastening screw by four teeth → Final tightening: 120°  clock-wise -A-  so that the second marking -1-  on the fastening screw is aligned with the marking -2-  on the wheel bearing housing.

  8. Remove the wheel bearing housing again and set it down carefully.
  9. Insert the drive shaft in the wheel bearing housing and fit the wheel bearing housing/drive shaft assembly in the vehicle. → Installing Rear Wheel Bearing Housing (Wheel Carrier)
