Removing Rear Wheel Bearing

  1. Press out wheel hub  .

    Carefully set the wheel bearing housing down.

    The wheel hub must be freely accessible.

    Do not damage the brake cover plate  .

    A second mechanic is required 

  2. Fit press-off tool hydraulic cylinder VAS 6178 WE 1284  , -3-  with assembly fixture T10230  , -2-  and attachments T10205  over the wheel hub on the wheel bearing housing -1-  .

  3. Connect to foot pump VAS 6179 WE 1283  and pressure gauge with connecting line VAS 6179/1 WE 1292  , -4-  .
  4. Apply compressed air to the tool and carefully press off the wheel hub.
  5. Fit wheel hub -4-  using separating device Nr.111  , -3-  , assembly fixture T10230  , -2-  and hydraulic cylinder VAS 6178 WE 1284  , -1-  , as well as pressure gauge with connecting line VAS 6179/1 WE 1292  .

  6. Apply compressed air to the tool and press the bearing shell -5-  off the wheel hub -4-  .
  7. Fit wheel bearing housing without drive shaft in the vehicle and secure at the upper trailing arms.
  8. Remove fastening screws -2-  for the wheel bearing -1-  from the wheel bearing housing -3-  .

  9. Remove wheel bearing.
