Replacing Lower Trailing-Arm Bearings

Information 

The pressure pieces and the hollow plunger-type hydraulic press VAS 6178 are used for removal and installation. Push a suitable assembly fixture T10230  onto the threaded rod and align it as described.

The bearing consists of the axle bearing -1-  and lock -2-  .

Before pressing out the bearing, check the alignment by checking the position of the cut-outs. → Alignment of bearing

  1. Press out the lock.

    Use extractor T10230/59  for pressing out the lock.

    1. 1.1. Fit the extractor -1-  on the lock -2-  .
    2. 1.2. Tighten adjusting screw -3-  until the extractor is fitted securely.
    3. 1.3. Tighten adjusting screw -4-  to prevent the tool from tilting.
    4. 1.4. Fit attachment part -5-  of the extractor close to the cut-out for the lock.
    5. 1.5. Tighten adjusting screw -6-  until the lock is loosened completely.

  2. Press out the bearing.

    The following pressure pieces are required for pressing out the bearing. → Pressure pieces for pressing out bearing

      The pressure pieces are used as follows. → Arrangement of tools for pressing out bearing

  3. Press in the bearing.

    Before pressing in the bearing, always check the alignment of the bearing. → Alignment of bearing 

    The following pressure pieces are required for pressing in.

  4. Press in the lock.

    The following pressure pieces are required for pressing in the lock. → Pressure pieces for pressing in lock

    • T10230/3 - -3-

      The pressure pieces are used as follows. → Arrangement of tools for pressing in lock

  5. To ensure that the lock is fitted at the correct position on the bearing, the lock must be crimped with the bearing. The following pressure pieces are required for crimping. → Pressure pieces for crimping
