Checking Compressor For Leaks

Information 

For illustration purposes, the compressor is shown without the gear support.

  1. Secure the Hose Adapter -VAG 1687/13-1-  at the bottom of the compressor housing.

    Secure hose connections with hose clamps.

  2. -Hose Adapter VAG 1687/13-3-  must be secured at the top of the compressor housing.

  3. Secure hose adapter -VAG 1687/13-2 -  to the compressor housing with adapter -VAG 1687/10-  .

    Secure hose connections with hose clamps.

  4. Prepare Charge Air System Tester -VAG 1687-  as follows:

    Unscrew pressure control valve -2-  completely and close valves -3-  and -4-  .

  5. Connect the charge air system tester to compressed air -1-  and to the Adapter -VAG 1687/10-  as shown.

  6. If there is water in the inspection glass, open the drain screw -6-  and drain the water.

    Open valve -3-  .

  7. Use the pressure control valve -2-  to set the pressure to 0.5 bar  .

    Open valve -4-  and wait until the test circuit is full. Set the pressure to 0.5 bar  again if necessary.

    Close valve -3-  and check the pressure gauge.

  8. The pressure must not drop by more than 0.1 bar  in 30 seconds  .
  9. Check the charge air system for leaks by listening for hissing noise, by touch, using commercially available leak detection spray or using the ultrasonic detector UD 150 WE 1038  .
