Installing Cylinder Heads

- If you are installing a replacement cylinder head, the contact surfaces between the hydraulic compensation elements, rocker arms and running surfaces of cams must be oiled before installing the cylinder head cover .
- If you are replacing the cylinder head or cylinder head gasket, change the coolant and engine oil .
- Replace screws that are tightened to an additional torque angle .
- Replace self-locking nuts as well as sealing rings, seals and O-rings .
- Note the different sealants for sealing surfaces and cylinder head screws .
- Secure all hose connections with standard hose clamps .
- Secure the camshaft for cylinder bank 1 in "TDC" position using Camshaft Clamp T40133 .
- Secure the camshaft for cylinder bank 2 in "TDC" position using Camshaft Clamp T40133 .
- Secure the crankshaft -1- in "TDC" position with Locking Pin T40069 .
- Fit new seals for the front coolant pipe.
- 4.1. Fit cylinder-head gasket.
- 4.2. Installation position: "top" marking or part number must be visible.
- 4.3. Check dowel sleeves -arrows- in the cylinder block.
- 4.4. Fit cylinder head.
- Tighten cylinder head screws.
- Tighten screws for lower timing chain cover.
Left cylinder head: 3 screws
Right cylinder head: 4 screws
- Further installation is performed in reverse order.
