Removing Lower Chain Housing Cover

NOTE: Incorrect handling of crankshafts
  • Risk of damage to the timing system

→ Never turn the crankshaft against the rolling direction or when the chain tensioner is removed.

→ Proceed carefully with your work.

→ Only turn the engine at the crankshaft.

→ After working on the camshaft, re-set the valve timing.

→ Observe general warning notes and working regulations.

  1. Remove lower chain housing cover.
    1. 1.1. Unscrew and remove fastening screws -1, 2 and 3- for the chain housing cover.

    2. 1.2. Detach securely bonded chain housing cover by tapping it carefully with a rubber hammer.
    3. 1.3. Clean sealing faces on engine block, crankshaft and chain housing cover thoroughly.
  2. Information 

    • If a crankshaft stub is dirty or slightly rusted, this will damage the new sealing ring when it is fitted.
    • Clean the crankshaft stub before removing the old sealing ring to prevent any particles of dirt from getting into the engine.
    • Use a metal-polishing pad (e.g. Never Dull) for this.

  3. Remove and dispose of crankshaft sealing ring.
