Removing Lower Chain Housing Cover

NOTE: Incorrect handling of crankshafts

Risk of damage to the timing system

→ Never turn the crankshaft against the rolling direction or when the chain tensioner is removed.

→ Proceed carefully with your work.

→ Only turn the engine at the crankshaft.

→ After working on the camshaft, re-set the valve timing.

→ Observe general warning notes and working regulations.

Remove lower chain housing cover.

1.1. Unscrew and remove fastening screws -1, 2 and 3- for the chain housing cover.

1.2. Detach securely bonded chain housing cover by tapping it carefully with a rubber hammer.
1.3. Clean sealing faces on engine block, crankshaft and chain housing cover thoroughly.

Information

If a crankshaft stub is dirty or slightly rusted, this will damage the new sealing ring when it is fitted.
Clean the crankshaft stub before removing the old sealing ring to prevent any particles of dirt from getting into the engine.
Use a metal-polishing pad (e.g. Never Dull) for this.

Remove and dispose of crankshaft sealing ring.
